This Project addresses how we contribute to continuous waste in the pursuit of fashionable interiors, clothing and furniture. In return it offers a response through the notion of upcycling and building for re-design.
Upcycling is the proceses of repurposing old materials in new ways to increase their value making it more desirable than it was originaly. Building for re-design is building with deconstruction in mind, the building is therefore easier to maintain and adapt to new users.
In New Zealand the overall waste generated from the construction and demolition sector is estimated at around 50% of waste to landfill. The latsest enviromental statistics state that that: New Zealand is 4th out of a total of 29 countries with the highest Municiple waste per capita. Within the construction and demolition sector it is estimated that at least 80% of this waste could be recycled and reused. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!
