Morning Star School
- MORNING STAR SCHOOL
- Area: 1,672sqmCompleted: Sep 2011A new low-cost school in the sugarcane fields of Trianon, Mauritius, accommodating 200 primary and secondary students from 5-18 yrs. An axial arrangement of separate and interconnected single storey concrete volumes sought to provide the complex with a homogenous unity under a flat roof. The axis of the building terminates at a large covered assembly area overlooking a large green sports and play area, the sugarcane fields and the Moka Mountains on the horizon. Classrooms, laboratories and administration offices were designed to maximize sunlight and shade, with cross ventilation from dual-aspect rooms opening onto courtyards to the front and gardens to the back to ensure a high quality learning environment. A varied and playful palette of colour was applied to the simple concrete structures to create visual interest.
