Chazen Museum of Art - Madison, WI
Info
Description
Continuum Architects + Planners and Machado & Silvetti of Boston formed an association to design the new $43 million expansion to the Chazen Museum of Art. Situated in the heart of the University's East Campus, the new museum addition doubles the size of the existing Chazen Museum.
The 86,000-square-foot addition doubles the available gallery space for both permanent and temporary exhibits and adds space for educational programs. Also, a new campus, pedestrian mall, and arts plaza forms the centerpiece of the campus's new arts district.
The design of the museum is conceived as creating the fraternal twin of the existing museum. Utilizing the same palette of design ideas as the existing museum, i.e. its materials, its use of daylight, its integration into the campus, and uses these ideas in new and different ways to achieve a contemporary yet timeless counterpart to the existing building.
