Casa Cristo

we were asked to conceive an economic house for a young couple, which should assure a living/ supper room, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a studio, served by a common bathroom and the master bedroom for the couple. in the basement, a garage and storage space. the site is distinguished by narrow and winding roads, and small spots of construction, as well the presence of great tree masses and many agricultural parcels. We are before an urbanistically delicate zone, of agricultural characteristics, and a rather small plot (526 m2), what conditioned the shape and formal composition of the building. the north and the west are involved by agricultural fields and by two public ways to the east and the south limits .soon became clear to us the need to release land for expansion of the house to the exterior, submitting the house to the minimum of occupation of the plot and to the mandatory distance of 7 meters to the axle of the road. thus the house backed against the extreme north of the plot, closing its against the precarious urbanity of the surroundings, and exploring the maximum height allowed by the municipal plan with neighbouring terrain (4 metres). the shape grows in volume following the topography and warping inwards while opening towards the sun and the landscape. the gradual form of the volume is the immediate expression of the internal organization of the house, establishing a promenade from the lowest level - the street in to the highest part of the house - the studio. in the centre of the ground floor a staircase, illuminated by a wide skylight, that leads to the upper floor while cutting the house in two, separating the room of couple from the other rooms.

    o pedido consistia na construção de uma casa económica para um casal jovem, e deveria assegurar uma sala de estar/ jantar e cozinha e dois quartos individuais, um escritório adjacente servidos por casa de banho comum e um quarto de casal. na cave, garagem e arrumos. o contexto onde se situa o terreno distingue-se pelos traçados viários estreitos e sinuosos, pela ocupação de pequenas manchas de construção, pela presença de grandes massas arbóreas e de muitas parcelas agrícolas. estamos perante uma zona urbanisticamente delicada, de características rurais, o que condiciona a composição espacial e formal do edifício. o terreno é de dimensões modestas (526 m2). a norte e poente é envolvido por terrenos agrícolas e a nascente e a sul por dois caminhos públicos. da leitura do programa perante a área de intervenção, tornou-se clara a necessidade de libertar terreno para expansão da casa ao exterior, submetendo-a ao mínimo de ocupação do lote e ao afastamento obrigatório de 7 metros ao eixo da via. a casa adossou-se ao extremo norte/ nascente do terreno, fechando-se à precária urbanidade do sítio, explorando a altura máxima permitida pelo pdm com os terrenos confinantes (4 m). cresce em volume acompanhando inicialmente a topografia e contorcendo-se no sentido interior do lote, em direcção ao sol e à paisagem. a forma progressiva do volume é a expressão imediata da organização espacial interior da moradia, estabelecendo uma promenade desde a cota mais baixa - a rua - através de um curto lanço de escadas, até ao ponto mais elevado e íntimo da casa, o estúdio. no centro da planta do piso térreo situa-se um lanço de escadas de tiro para o piso superior, iluminado por um proeminente lanternim, que separa o quarto de casal dos outros quartos, do quarto de banho comum e do estúdio.
