Aichi/Japan - The creative arrangement of the Austria Pavilion of the EXPO 2005 in Aichi (Japan) was announced as a creative competition throughout the European Union. 42 creative teams have submitted their projects, but our concept "The Slope - Austrian Sensations for Japan" has convinced the jury.
A stage for your senses. The idea behind the Austrian Pavilion was to build a stage that titillates visitors senses: move in a waltz, take in the scent of a wildflower meadow, feel the cold of an ice bar, taste Sacher Torte. The experience of nature and culture has been destilled to its very essence. Austrian clichés have been skillfully woven into the presentation. That was the mean idea behind the Austrian Pavilons main attraction: "The Slope" - an innovative prime example of Austrian wood construction, a central area, a forum for activities and interaction for numerous events.
"The Slope" was a stage for Austrian achievements and its culture of life. But it is also an appealing invitation to visitors from the entire world to take off for Austria. The unusual plywood structure is also the scene of less common forms of movement like tobogganing. The Slope was a simple excerpt of a mountain, reduced to the experience of an inclined plane. "Austrian sensations" have created sensory impressions which accompany visitors on their way through the Pavilion.
